Rules Regarding Clear And Tinted Visors

The primary reason for tinted visors being illegal in high school football is that if a player suffers a head or face injury, medical examiners may need to access vision to their eyes without removing the helmet.

For example, if a player were to possibly endure a concussion, the medical team cannot endanger the player by moving the helmet around. They must be able to check for dilation in their eyes immediately, and tinted visors prevent that. 

High school football players are authorized to wear clear visors without the presence of any tint. They must also be made of rigid material and nothing that is easily breakable as this can cause damage to the eyes if one were to take a hit.

Some coaches are more relaxed with tinted visors in practices or walkthroughs, but for games, there is still a strict rule forbidding tinted visors. 

There is no authorization from medical professionals allowing players to wear a tinted visor. Players with a medical condition may be granted a type of tinted contacts or goggles but not an actual visor attached to the helmet. 

As long as the visor is qualified for play, anyone can wear a visor! There seems to be some myth that only position players wear visors, but there is no restriction regarding which players can wear the visor.

In pro levels, defensive players have stressed the challenges of playing against a QB with some tint in his visor because they have to read his eyes. When the eyes become partially blocked, it becomes a nightmare to have an advantage on the play. 

The decision to wear a football visor is entirely up to you! The advantages of wearing one can be beneficial to the protection of your eyes, but it all depends on player preference.

A huge reason players wear visors, however, is for the unique fashion it brings to the game. 

Most visors are compatible with all football helmets. The main differences are when helmets differ in size or a special kind of visor is used. For example, youth helmets often require a more compact visor.

The visors that may not fit every helmet are the ones that are made specifically for certain models. 

Yes, glasses can be worn under a football helmet. However, prescription glasses are not recommended because they are not made to handle high impact hits. Any hit to the helmet area can cause damage to not only your glasses but your eyes.
